Music Monday - The Beautiful Letdown

I have a fairly large music collection and it's very, umm, unique. As a matter of fact, I get made fun of regularly, because you might find CD's by Lifehouse, Steven Curtis Chapman, Neil Diamond, and Kenny G all on the same shelf, not to mention a stray Barry Manilow CD sprinkled in. (I know....I don't want to talk about it). Anyway, even with all the music I have, I find myself to returning to certain CD's over and over. Lately, if I can tear myself away from John Waller , it's been Switchfoot's album, "The Beautiful Letdown".

Depending on your age and taste in music, you likely won't find this to be easy listening, but neither is it horribly harsh. The first song begins a little strong with a guitar riff, but don't let it turn you off. The thing I love about this album is the lyrics. This CD is full of songs that encourage you to examine and challenge yourself. The longer I own it, the more I like all songs equally (except track four), but one of my favorites remains This is Your Life. The song makes the statement and asks the question, "This is your life. Are you who you want to be?" That's a simple lyric, but for some reason resonates with me and always reminds me to take a good look at myself. I want to be like Christ....how am I doing? Nobody will make the changes for me. It's my life. Am I who I want to be?

Besides the rock-style opening songs, Meant To Live and This is Your Life, The Beautiful Letdown has some lighter tempo, fun-loving songs in the middle of the album with More Than Fine and Gone, and ends with a couple beautiful ballads, On Fire and Twenty-Four. If you're looking for music with a mainstream sound, powerful and sometimes fun-loving lyrics. Take a listen to The Beautiful Letdown. You won't be let down.

Thanks Kelly, and here's a tip...go to free.napster.com and you can listen to whole albums free and not just 30 second snippets. I use that site to listen to CD's to decide if I want to buy them. You can only listen for so long per month, but generally it's been plenty of time for me. Good Luck!!
